Major Events Fund

A major event is defined as an event of national, cultural, social, or economic significance. Venture Taranaki actively attracts, hosts, and invests in Major Events on behalf of the region.

These events have the potential to deliver substantial economic, social, cultural, and marketing exposure benefits to Taranaki, enhancing the region’s profile and vitality.

Our strategic investment in major events not only stimulates economic activity and attracts visitors but also elevates our reputation on both national and international stages, leaving a lasting positive impact on the wider community.

The annual portfolio of major events supports a diverse range of arts, music, cultural, and sporting events throughout the year and across the region.

The Major Events funding round is supported by funding from the Taranaki Regional Events Fund.

Regional Events Fund

As part of the Government’s Tourism Recovery Package, a $47.75 million Regional Events Fund (REF) was made available to the nine International Marketing Alliance (IMAs) groupings of Regional Tourism Organisations. The purpose of the REF is to stimulate inter and intra-regional visitation through funding events that will encourage expenditure missed by international visitor markets.

The Western North Island IMA consists of Taranaki, Whanganui and Manawatu. Together the three regions were allocated $1 million over the four-year duration of the fund.
